What you're working toward

CFI → Regional → Major Airline Captain.

Here's the civilian path, start to finish. VNAV's 12 months cover the first four steps.

  1. 1Private PilotLearn to fly
  2. 2Instrument RatingFly by instruments
  3. 3Commercial PilotQualified to be paid to fly
  4. 4CFI & CFIIQualified to teach
  5. 5Build hoursUsually as a paid instructor
  6. 6Regional airlineFirst officer, then captain
  7. 7Major airlineThe long-term goal

The payoff

$30K→$420K+

Base pay, from first CFI year to senior widebody captain.

New contracts signed across the industry between 2023 and 2025 raised major airline pilot pay by roughly 30 to 40 percent — the biggest jump in a generation.

This is the seat the whole path is built toward. VNAV’s founder is an Airline Pilot & Check Airman who evaluates pilots for exactly this job.

The core distinction

Why we can charge less.

Most schools train on decades-old aircraft with analog gauges and high fuel burn, and pass the cost to you. Our launch fleet will be the factory-built Van's RV-12iS.

A more efficient aircraft

Legacy trainer9.0 gal/hr
VNAV planned fleet~3.85 gal/hr

Legacy trainers burn around 9.0 gallons of fuel per hour. The RV-12iS burns 3.7 to 4.0.

Ground school moved online

Self-paced online ground school means in-person time is spent actually flying and briefing, not sitting through material you could review at home.

Lower cost, not a lesser airplane

Cheaper to fly doesn't mean older or simpler. Each aircraft will have dual Garmin G3X touchscreen displays with synthetic vision and a coupled autopilot, the kind of setup you'll see in a regional jet.

What it costs

$83,350

$40,645 less than a leading national fast-track program's published tuition of $123,995 at its Hartford, CT location (verified September 2026), for a comparable path from zero experience through Commercial Pilot and CFI/CFII.

Full-time at Windham Airport (KIJD): zero flight hours to Commercial Pilot and CFI/CFII on a glass-cockpit fleet.

Build hours, get paid

As a newly minted CFII, you're positioned to earn while you close the gap to 1,500 hours, instead of paying to rent time.
